Zizzi is a large chain of Italian Restaurants across the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1999 with its first restaurant opening in Chiswick. There are more than 140 Zizzi restaurants in the UK as of May 2017.
It was sold by Gondola Group along with ASK Italian to Bridgepoint in February 2015 for £250 million.
Pronunciation and Origin
Pronounced as “Zeezee”. It is the last name originating from Siclian dialect Zizzu meaning “stylish youth”. Also from Arabic Aziz meaning “beloved”, “beautiful” and “mighty”.
About The Food
Zizzi wants to be an individual business just like most others. By trying to do this they produce their Italian food with an individual and unique touch of your local area. So each branch you go to will have a slightly different taste depending on the local area.
There signature Rustica pizza’s are hand stretched to make a bigger, thinner and crisper base and then loaded with toppings. They also offer a range of Italian favourites with an added Zizzi twist. Also they have expanded their allergen offering.
What I’ve Tried…
Garlic Bread with Mozzarella (& caramelised balsamic onions.)
.This is one of the nicest Garlic Bread with Cheese that I have tried and if I could I would have it every week as a treat. It is full of flavour and all the components that make it what is it is great and you wouldn’t want much more from your starter. .
Lasagna (Rich ragu, béchamel, topped with riserva cheese & breadcrumbs.)
.It was a nice lasagna but the seasoning on it didn’t work for me personally so it wasn’t as good as it could have been. The cheese sauce was nice and creamy. Could of done with a bit more meat and tomato sauce inside. There was just the right amount of pasta in it.
Classic Pepperoni Campagna (Pepperoni, Ham, Mushrooms, Mozzarella & Thyme.)
.Full of flavour and very filling. Just what you would want from a pizza. Struggled to eat it all after having the Garlic Bread with Cheese for starter so I ended up not eating it all but I would have if I could have. It’s bigger than it looks until you start eating it..
The staff at Zizzi are nice, friendly, polite and helpful. You couldn’t ask for much more from the staff, all you do is ask and the staff will do their best to help.
Overall I enjoyed my 2 visits to Zizzi and I would defiantly recommend it. They where really helpful especially since I have a nut allergy so the serving staff made sure that the kitchen staff where aware of this when making and cooking my food. Good quality food and what you pay for and I would come again as a treat. The prices are high for this type of restaurant but you do get what you pay for so you don’t mind as much paying them.
