Nandos is an international casual dining restaurant chain which originating in Johannesburg, South Africa, with a Mozambican/Portuguese theme. It was founded in 1987 and Fernando Duarte opened the first Nando’s in South Africa. Nando’s operates about 1,000 outlets in 30 countries. Nando’s specialises in grilled chicken dishes with various peri-peri marinades. Their logo is a symbol of a Cockerel which they have called Barci.
Nando’s get their chickens locally, delivered fresh and never frozen with excess fat already trimmed off. We then marinate them in a sauce that contains no preservatives, colourants or artificial flavours for 24-hours so that the flavour goes right through to the bone. Finally flame-grilling reduces the fat content even further and regular basting with Nando’s PERi-PERi sauce keeps the chicken succulent and tender.

Nando’s specialises in flame-grilled peri peri chicken. The chicken is served in quarters, halves, wholes, and butterfly breasts. It also serves burgers, pitas, salads, wings and wraps. In some countries, Nando’s sells chicken livers, espetadas and cataplana. A range of sides are available to order with these main dishes such as spicy rice, coleslaw, garlic bread, corn on the cob, creamy mash, chips, mixed leaf salad and macho peas.
The Peri-Peri Chilli – A hot African bird’s eye chilli is mixed with fresh lemon, garlic, onion, oil and herbs. The strengths of the Peri-Peri Chilli are:

What I’ve Tried
¼ Chicken Breast – Comes off the bone easy. Nice to have chicken on the bone for a change with the skin on but for those who prefer no skin on you can just take it off before eating. You will defiantly need a side with this as a ¼ of chicken breast isn’t much on its own unless you where not very hungry to start off with.
½ Chicken – When you get ½ a chicken there are a few small hidden bone which you might not notice until you eat a peace of chicken so if possible try and make sure all the bone stay on the plate and not on the meat when you try and eat it. you get a lot more chicken from the ¼ chicken to the ½ chicken and its a lot more filling, just as nice as the ¼ chicken.
Butterfly Burger – Two peaces of chicken breast connected together with the skin of the chicken to create the burger and it is very filling as it has the best of both from the chicken burger and chicken from the bone on the burger and bone free. You got to try this as its so nice.
Grilled Chicken Burger -A peace of chicken breast with no skin on in some bread with peri-peri sauce, mayo and salad. What I call a proper chicken burger and would recommend it to anyone who loves there chicken burgers grilled.
Spicy Rice – The yellow rice isn’t really that spicy. You’ll get a couple of spicy bit of rice but the rest of it is just plain yellow rice with seasoning. Its nice but its more plain rice rather than spic rice.
Garlic Bread – The garlic bread is different as they use the bread that they use for the burgers and just but garlic butter on to make it garlic bread, so the main difference from other places is the bread that they use. It is nice but its something that once you have had it once you probably wouldn’t have again.
Creamy Mash – The mash potato is defiantly creamy and is so nice and not lumpy. One of the few places which I have been to which doesn’t do lumpy mash so its worth try for sure.
Chips – Nothing special with the plain chips from here just as good as any where else were you can get them. There is Peri-Peri chips available but that isn’t my thing having Peri-Peri sauce on my chips.
Mango Gelado – I had of tub of Mango Gelado as they only come in tubs as I wants some ice creams but wanted it in a different flavour for a change from the traditional vanilla flavour so I tried mango. It was nice and it made a change to have a different flavour.
Vanilla Gelado – I had a scoop of vanilla ice cream but they also available in small tubs. I enjoyed the Vanilla Gelado as it was make from good quality ingredients unlike some places which only use the cheap stuff. Also it is just enough for desert if you just want something small by having one scoop of ice cream.
Most of the staff are nice, friendly and helpful, but 1 or 2 members of staff can be unhelpful and rude for no obvious reason even when you are just ordering your food. Even though some staff are helpful they do need to improve on some of them skills and service and would be useful for them if they go on course to help them out.
